Standard 6 Demonstrates competence in classroom management.
Criteria The teacher:
a. Creates a learning community that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-regulation for every student.
b. Establishes, communicates, models, and maintains standards of responsible student behavior.
c. Develops and implements classroom procedures and routines that support high expectations for student learning.
d. Uses instructional time effectively to maximize student achievement.
e. Creates a safe and purposeful learning environment.
Communication of expectations is critical. Once the ground rules have been established at the beginning of the school year, it is the responsibility of the Educator to maintain those standards for the entire school year. There are many theories on proper classroom management styles, and there is no perfect answer. Each Educator has a different style, and what works for them, may not be best for someone else. It is universal that each classroom MUST maintain a safe, comfortable learning environment for their students. It is imperative that respect is still shown to the Educator and to students alike. To help achieve these ends I will employ technology in my classroom to help enforce goals, and modulate behaviors in my students. Allowing goals to be achievable will help encourage students to perform admirably while in my classroom and in their daily lives.
