I am a man of stories. Drama, comedy, suspense, it doesn't matter. Give me a good story, and you have my attention. The funny thing about history is that it's just a series of stories. Everybody has one, and everyone that has ever live has one. The great part about History is that the more you learn, the more you uncover, the more of the past becomes real to you. One of the most impactful moments for me was when I was given a tour of Arsenal Island in the Quad Cities. This military base is responsible for arms, armor, and vehicle manufacturing. What you wouldn't expect is their AMAZING collection of war memorabilia and historic archives. We were allowed back in the vault area and the tour guide showed us an actual Nazi arm band... I knew that WW2 had of course happened, I knew lots of details about several battles and the key players, but this somehow made it real for me. Here was something, that a German soldier actually wore into battle... The REAL thing. To me, it was like walking on the moon. So, why history? Because every time I uncover some new piece of the past, it becomes real for me. These peoples past, long ago, actually happened. It's a feeling not like anything else in this world.
